VCU’s only double major in Fashion Merchandising and Dual Language Studies with French & Chinese, paving the way for greater acknowledgement of the importance of language learning
What makes a “Holden”?
A love for sewing & textiles: there’s more to fashion than putting on a cute outfit, understanding the properties of different textiles and choosing the perfect fabrics to construct a piece is just life for this garment district fanatic!

A passion for math: it really starts to add up! the ability to recall formulas and perform advanced equations makes math a breeze for her!

A desire to hear & be heard: hello? coucou? 为？one language naturally could never be enough for someone who wants a chance to speak with everyone, and no need to fear customer service when you chat with strangers on the street! finding a way to communicate with anyone is just her style!

Through my work, my studies, everything I do, one of my primary goals in life is to have the ability to communicate with as many people as possible.
At times this may be for somewhat selfish reasons, the more people whose languages I speak, the more opportunities I’ll have access to.
But it’s also about knowing what it’s like to feel voiceless, wishing someone could just understand what you’re trying to say.
Communication goes beyond simple words, it’s through our faces, though what we wear, through the tone we use when we do speak, so much does into it.
It’s when we begin to understand each other, differences and all, that together, we sparkle.
